An uncommon, shy and seldom seen resident which is found in mature forests in the valleys surrounding the mountains.

The large nest of twigs is built in the fork of a tree in a secluded place. They hunt by chasing larger songbirds, willow grouse and small mammals.

The female is bigger than the male but the plumage is similar. The male hunts for the family during the breeding time.
