Clangula hyemalis, Long-tailed Duck, Havella. 50cm.

Long-tailed Duck
An uncommon summer visitor from the coast, it comes to moorland lakes to breed in the summer.

The nest is a hidden hollow among vegetation and lined with down. In the summer it eats aquatic insects and also some berries and plants.

Only the male (drake) has the long tail feathers and the female is, as in many ducks, brown and undistinctive. They are fast flyers.
