Martes martes, Pine Marten, Mår. 55cm.

Pine Marten
They are found in the mature forests, especially the coniferous areas, that surround the mountains.

These residents are not rare but are seldom seen as they prefer to be nocturnal, and if active by day are shy.

They hunt small rodents, especially voles, but also eat squirrels, birds, eggs and berries. Their preferred den is a hole in a tree, especially old squirrel dreys, but they will also use rock crevices which they line with moss. The sexes are alike, but the males are slightly bigger.

They can live up to 10 years.
