Red Fox
A common, but shy, resident of the valleys surrounding the mountains.

They tend to keep in the forests or scrub but may venture onto the tundra. It is the only carnivorous mammal whose numbers are increasing, mostly at the expense of the arctic fox.

They hunt small rodents, like voles, but will also eat insects, berries, birds, eggs and many other things if hungry. They live in extensive multi-roomed lairs dug in the earth. The sexes are alike.

In the wild they can live up to 9 years.
