Rangifer tarandus, Reindeer, Rein. 200cm.

Reindeer
Most resident reindeer are feral descendents of the tame herds released to replace the original wild herd, which vanished from Scandinavia in the early half of the last century. The remnants of this wild herd are now just found in the Dovrefjell/Rondane areas.

They eat lichens, especially Cladonia rangiferina, grass, sedges, shoots and fungi. Both sexes have antlers. They are very gregarious.

They can live for 12 years.
