Salix lapponum, Downy Willow, Lappvier. 1m.
Quite common, especially on wet rocky slopes, up to 1300m.
These dense bushes bear sessile (without stalks) catkins in late May just before the leaves appear, each sex on its own bush. They are pollinated by insects. The seeds are wind dispersed in late August.
The 5cm leaves are oblong and are both dull green-grey and downy on both sides.
They are hosts to various insects.
