Salix caprea, Goat Willow, Selje. 3m.

Goat Willow
Common in riparian locations in the forested valleys around Scandinavia. They do not grow above the tree line and seldom above 500m.

The erect catkins appear before the leaves in April. The larger female catkins may be 7cm, ripen in June and are wind dispersed.

The oval leaves have a pointed tip, a dark green upper and a grey downy lower side.

The trees play host to many insects in summer.
