Alnus incana, Grey Alder, Gråor. 10m.

Grey Alder
Common in the valleys around the massif by water and damp places. They tolerate poor soil but not shade. They grow up to 600m and reproduce by suckers or seeds.

The long male and small female catkins appear on the same tree in late summer. They pollinate in March and the female catkins ripen to a small green cone. These become woody and after seed dispersal remain on the tree.
