Scandinavian Mountains over 2000 metres - James Baxter
Introduction › All Mountains A to Z
There are 137 mountains, and 102 secondary peaks, over 2000m in Scandinavia. These are found in 20 different regions. The regions are Hurrungane, Jotunheimen, Breheimen, Reinheimen, Rondane, Dovrefjell, Sarek and Kebnekaise. Jotunheimen, however, is subdivided into another 13 massifs. There follows a list of all mountains.
For this website I have taken the definition of a mountain to be that where there must be at least 100m of vertical ascent from the highest saddle. Anything lower than this is a secondary top. Secondary tops with 30m or more of vertical ascent from the highest saddle are classed as peaks, while those with less than 30m are unclassified. Please refer to the Massifs, Mountains & Peaks page for a more detailed explanation and diagram.
