Also better know as the “Hytta på Bandet”, Skagastølsbu has been providing shelter for mountaineers in Hurrungane since 1894.
It was a self-service cabin with facilities; however, due to overuse, abuse of the honesty system and differing interpretations of legislation preventing any commercial activity in national parks, DNT, who run the cabin decided to remove the equipment and facilities and relegate the cabin's status to an emergency shelter only.
As a consequence the stone shelter is damp, dirty and threadbare and no longer the cosy cabin it once was, but will do when the going gets tough.
