Microtus agrestis, Field Vole, Markmus. 10cm.
Quite common in the forested valleys. They prefer grassy woods and meadows.
In summer they eat grasses and herbs, but in winter may gnaw bark from trees.
Their nest is a sphere of grass, usually under a tussock. This nest is on a network of surface runways and underground tunnels. Population explosions in some years similar to the lemming. Females are more social than males, otherwise the sexes are alike.
They can live for 2 years, but seldom pass a year.
