This quite common lichen grows very slowly and requires nitrogen to survive. It therefore thrives on rocks under birds' perches or where animals may defecate.
It forms rosettes which are firmly attached to rocks. These lichens grow throughout the mountains on rocks and some varieties may be found on trees also.
