A common resident beside fast flowing mountain streams and down by fast rivers in the forests.
The cup shaped nest built by both sexes is near water, on a bank or behind a waterfall. It is made of grass and moss with an overhanging moss canopy.
The dipper swims and dives for aquatic insects and larvae and also very small fish. Both sexes are alike.
The dipper is the National Bird of Norway.
