Buteo Lagapus, Rough Legged Buzzard, Fjellvåk. 60cm.

Rough Legged Buzzard
An uncommon resident in the moorland zone.

They nest on craggy ledges in a structure built of twigs. They survive off lemmings and other small rodents, willow grouse and ptarmigan. During a poor lemming year they will not breed.

In winter they retreat down to lower altitudes and coastal areas. The sexes are alike and the male feeds the family during breeding.
