Troglodytes troglodytes, Wren, Gjerdesmett. 10cm.
A familiar resident which occupies a wide habitat from cultivated land throughout the forests and into the alpine vegetation zone.
The cuplike nest is built by the male from whatever is to hand and hidden in rock crevices or treeholes and is then lined by the females.
They subsist off insects, especially moth larvae when available. Males and females are alike.
