Red Deer
These residents are found in the wooded valleys surrounding the massif. Once rare, they are becoming widespread in the mature and mountain birch forests.

They graze on shoots, bark, heather, grasses and sedges.

Hinds and their young tend to be gregarious while stags are more peripheral, except in the rutting season when mature males acquire and guard a harem. They do not have dens but rest at feeding areas. The males are larger and have antlers.

They can live for about 15 years.
