Mountain Birch
A hardy tree whose limit is the tree line at about 900m. They grow above the limit of the downy birch, of which they are a sub speices, so share in the reproductive characteristics.

They grow very slowly producing a hard but contorted wood. The trees are often infested by insects in the early summer.

In the autumn their leaves turn very rich colours before falling.
