Pinus sylvestris, Scots Pine, Furu. 30m.
Pines are common in the surrounding valleys. They grow up to about 750m altitude. They may be many hundreds of years old.
Male and the crimson female flowers are borne on same tree in May. The female then develops cones over two years and releases wind borne seeds.
Many of the pine trees near Øvre Årdal and Vetti were killed by flouride pollution, but the rest are recovering well.
